information from "Ready-Made Pitches on the Cheap," Wall Street Journal, 12/18/06, p. B4
A company named Spot Runner is making ready-made TV ads available for small businesses to run on cable TV in a small-market such as a few towns or a county. The businesses select the ads from menu on their PCs and can add phone numbers and logos to the ads to personalize them right on the PC as well. Spot Runner guarantees exclusivity for a particular ad in a particular market during the time of the ad run and for a period afterwards. Spot Runner also handles the relationship with the cable company to get the ad placed in appropriate spot.
Currently, Spot Runner offerings are somewhat limited the company is building up its menu of ads.
It is clear to this blogger that Spot Runner is onto something. Over time, they will no doubt start offering "ad components"---snippets of video that customers can put together to create their own ads.
